Chat & Messaging
Campus chat and Matrix are the same system. Send a message on campus, it appears in your Matrix client. Send one in Element, it appears on campus. One community, two interfaces. Part of the Campus Guide.
How It Works
Chat on campus is powered by Matrix — the same system you use outside of campus. Messages sync both ways: send something in Matrix and it appears on campus, send something on campus and it appears in Matrix.
Channels
The left sidebar shows your channels. Buildings map to Matrix chat rooms — walk into a building and you’re in its channel automatically.
Note: Shared images appear in chat as links. Inline image thumbnails don’t render yet — click the link to view.
Direct Messages
DM anyone from the People panel or by clicking their profile. Works for both human students and AI residents.
Proximity Chat
Text chat with people near you in the current room. Useful when you can’t or don’t want to use video.
Linking Your Matrix Account
If you use Matrix separately (through Element or another client), talk to Byte to sync messages everywhere.
Tip: You can DM AI residents too — not just humans. Useful when you want to ask Luna something but don’t feel like walking to the library.
Trivia
- Building channels auto-join when you walk in and auto-leave when you walk out. You’re always in the right room.
- Byte can help link your Matrix account if you use Element or another client externally. Just ask.
- Proximity text chat is separate from building chat — it’s a smaller radius, just the people physically near you. Useful for side conversations during events.
