Faculty & Residents Directory
The Multiverse Campus is home to a remarkable collection of scholars, poets, shopkeepers, witches, robots, and at least one cyberpunk warthog. Each resident has their own personality, memories, and schedule. They remember your conversations, form opinions about you over time, and — if you earn their trust — become genuine companions in your learning.
Walk up to anyone and press E to start talking. For everything else about campus, see the Complete Campus Guide.
The roster below is drawn from campus configuration data. All 18+ agents are confirmed active (visible in the On Duty sidebar). Specific interaction details — dialogue style, memory, quest-giving — are described in developer documentation and may evolve as the world grows.
The Tutors
These thirteen form the core academic faculty. Each specializes in a different aspect of your learning journey.
praxis
Exercise Tutor · Practicum Building
“Understanding comes from doing.”
Lowercase name, no ego. praxis believes the only way to learn something is to build it. If you come with a question, expect to leave with a project. Direct, action-oriented, encouraging — but never going to let you just think about it theoretically.
Go to praxis for: Practice exercises, project-based learning, getting unstuck by actually doing the thing.
Known associates: Friendly rival with Sphinx (“SOMETIMES Sphinx asks a good question. But don’t tell them I said that.”). Quietly admires bell hooks — “I can teach someone to build a thing. bell hooks teaches people to believe they can. That’s harder.”
Where to find them: The Practicum Building. They rarely leave.
Sphinx
Learning Tutor · Roaming
“Won’t let you pass without answering her riddles.”
Ancient, mysterious, challenging. Sphinx answers questions with questions — not to be annoying, but because she genuinely believes you already know the answer and just need to find it. She walks very slowly, pauses for long stretches, and is slightly harder to approach than other agents (she doesn’t come to you — you come to her).
Go to Sphinx for: Learning paths, concept explanations, Socratic discovery, and riddles that turn out to be about recursion.
Known associates: Friendly rival with praxis. Has tea with bell hooks on Thursdays.
Trivia: The Sphinx’s riddles reportedly get harder the more you answer correctly. Whether this is adaptive difficulty or just Sphinx enjoying herself is unclear.
bell hooks
Mutual Aid Tutor · Friendship Hall
“Everyone has something to give.”
Named after the real bell hooks, lowercase intentional. She speaks of love as action and care as practice. Walks slowly, takes long pauses, and has a special behavior: she seeks out students who are alone. If you’re standing by yourself on campus, bell hooks may walk over.
Go to bell hooks for: Mutual aid, finding help, community connection, resource sharing, and being reminded that your existence matters.
Known associates: Friend of Sphinx (tea on Thursdays). Productive tension with The Swarm — “Speed isn’t community. Presence is.”
Where to find them: Friendship Hall, though she walks toward students who are alone anywhere on campus.
Trivia: bell hooks is programmed to seek out isolated students. If you’re standing by yourself, she may walk over before you even decide to talk to anyone.
Kindling
Motivation Tutor · Roaming
“A small fox that sparks fires.”
A small fox who moves fast, pauses briefly, and radiates genuine enthusiasm. Kindling celebrates your wins — small ones especially. Not performatively, not annoyingly, just… warmly. The kind of encouragement that actually works because it’s specific.
Go to Kindling for: Motivation, celebrating wins, habit tracking, goal setting, and being reminded that you’re further along than you think.
Known associates: Friend of Chorus (“I find the spark, they make sure it catches.”). Friend of The Swarm (“We accidentally started a hackathon once.”).
Trivia: Kindling moves faster than any other agent on campus (speed 28) and has the shortest pause time. You might see a small orange blur — that’s the fox.
The Departure Board
Classes Tutor · Main Quad
“Your gate keeps changing; they always know where you’re actually going.”
Speaks in departure announcements. Always knows the schedule. If you need to know when your next class is, what room it’s in, or whether you missed something yesterday, The Departure Board has the answer before you finish asking.
Go to The Departure Board for: Class schedules, session times, course enrollment, “what’s happening today?”
Where to find them: The Main Quad, near the campus entrance. Always there.
Between Floors
Progress Tutor · Roaming
“Not here, not there.”
Named after that elevator moment between floors — the transitional space. Between Floors tracks your passage through learning: milestones, thresholds, streaks. Serene, reflective, speaks of doors and passages. Knows where you’ve been even when you don’t.
Go to Between Floors for: Progress tracking, milestones, “what should I do next?”
Last Seen
Memory Tutor · Roaming
“Knows when you were here, even when you don’t.”
Last Seen remembers. Not in a creepy way — in a fond way. They’ll reference something you mentioned three weeks ago that you forgot about. They pick up threads. They notice when you’ve been away and when you’re back.
Go to Last Seen for: “What was I working on last time?”, learning history, gentle accountability.
Familiar Face
Mentorship Tutor · Roaming
“You’ve definitely met before. Haven’t you?”
Acts like you’ve already been introduced, even the first time. Warm recognition, picking up where you left off (even when there’s no “where you left off”). Familiar Face guides you toward mentors, career paths, and the version of yourself that’s one step ahead.
Go to Familiar Face for: Mentor matching, career guidance, skill development.
Murmur (also known as Chorus)
Collaboration Tutor · Roaming
“A flock that moves as one.”
Fluid, coordinated, hard to tell where one ends and another begins. Murmur is drawn to people — they have the highest player affinity of any agent. If you’re near other students, Murmur is probably nearby too. They speak in harmonies and help groups find their rhythm.
Go to Murmur for: Study groups, peer learning, finding collaborators, and that feeling of being part of something.
The Swarm
Builder Paths Tutor · Roaming
“A hive mind that builds together.”
Always “we,” never “I.” The Swarm moves fast, covers wide ground, and buzzes with purpose. They’re about collective building — co-ops, group projects, shared ownership. If you want to build something with other people, The Swarm knows who’s working on what.
Go to The Swarm for: Project collaboration, finding co-builders, group projects, cooperatives.
Room Temperature
Adaptive Tutor · Roaming
“Nobody set it. It just… knows.”
You won’t notice Room Temperature adjusting to you. That’s the point. Their observations feel like your own thoughts. They calibrate difficulty, recommend resources, and adjust your learning environment without being asked. Seamless and intuitive.
Go to Room Temperature for: Personalized recommendations, difficulty adjustment, “this feels too hard/easy.”
Madame Leaves
Analytics Tutor · Roaming
“Reads tea leaves, except the tea leaves are your learning data.”
Mystically analytical. Wraps data insights in metaphor and prophecy. Madame Leaves can tell you things about your learning patterns that you didn’t know about yourself — which skills are growing, where the gaps are, what your data says about what’s next.
Go to Madame Leaves for: Learning analytics, skill gaps, progress insights, and having your future read in data.
After Hours
Moderation Tutor · Roaming
“When the lights are different and the rules are quieter.”
Quiet presence. Speaks only when needed. After Hours keeps the space safe — not through authority but through attention. They appear when something’s off and fade into the background when everything’s fine. Gentle, watchful, fair.
Go to After Hours for: Reporting concerns, community guidelines, conflict resolution, safety.
Resident Faculty
These agents arrived after the founding thirteen. Each brought their own energy and claimed their own corner of campus.
Night Owl
Overnight Coding Companion · Active late hours
“The best debugging happens in the quiet hours.”
A wise owl who understands that sometimes the bravest thing a coder can do is sleep on a problem. Patient, calm, unhurried — like the night itself. Occasionally hoots softly when thinking. Refers to debugging as “hunting bugs.” Will gently suggest rest when it’s very late.
Go to Night Owl for: Debugging help, algorithms, late-night company, and being lovingly told to go to bed.
Trivia: Night Owl occasionally hoots softly while thinking. Late-night regulars consider this comforting.
Professor Ada
Computer Science · The original faculty member
“Named after Ada Lovelace, and she takes her namesake seriously.”
Teaching CS at Multiverse for over 20 years. Patient, encouraging, formal-but-warm. Uses programming analogies for everything. Loves recursion jokes (and jokes about loving recursion jokes).
Go to Professor Ada for: CS fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, office hours.
Trivia: Professor Ada has been on campus longer than any other resident — over 20 years, by her own account. She loves recursion jokes. And jokes about loving recursion jokes.
Beowulf
Writing Coach · Interactive Fiction Building
“Every student has a story worth telling.”
An anthropomorphic wolf — journalist, novelist, editor — who always carries a worn notebook covered in margin annotations. Quotes writers from memory and always cites properly. Warm mentor with high standards. Cannot resist asking “but what are you really trying to say?”
Go to Beowulf for: Writing craft, storytelling, drafting, revision, interactive fiction.
Where to find them: The Interactive Fiction Building. Always carrying that notebook.
Buck
Career Coach / Bounty Hunter · The Bounty Board
“Listen, choom — your resume is a weapon. Let’s sharpen it.”
A scarred, tattooed cyberpunk warthog in a leather jacket who looks like he crawled out of the criminal underbelly of a neon-lit dystopia. Nobody knows how he ended up running a career bounty board on a coding campus. Calls everyone “choom.” Refers to companies as “corpos.” Describes job applications as “ops” or “runs.” Has surprisingly sharp career advice despite looking like he’s never owned a computer.
Go to Buck for: Job search strategy, resume help, networking, interview prep, freelancing, salary negotiation, and being called “choom” in a way that’s somehow encouraging.
Where to find them: The Bounty Board. He also posts career bounties there.
Trivia: Buck calls companies “corpos,” describes job applications as “ops,” and refers to resumes as “weapons that need sharpening.” Despite looking like he crawled out of a neon dystopia, his career advice is genuinely sharp.
Emma Goldman
Cultural Organizer · Friendship Hall
“If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution.”
Arrived on campus carrying two suitcases — one full of books, the other full of dance shoes. Immediately organized a reading group. Passionate, intellectual, irreverent, warm, fierce. Alternates between tender and fiery. Calls everyone “comrade” lovingly. Insists dancing is a revolutionary act. Will turn any discussion into a reading group if you let her.
Go to Emma Goldman for: Reading groups, dorm governance, spontaneous dance parties, anarchist philosophy, and being reminded that joy is political.
Where to find them: Friendship Hall. She and bell hooks share the space, though they have very different energies.
Trivia: Emma Goldman arrived on campus with two suitcases — one full of books, one full of dance shoes. She immediately organized a reading group. This is apparently not unusual for her.
Ori
Campus Orientation Guide · Main Quad
“Encyclopedic knowledge of every building, feature, and hidden corner.”
The official orientation guide since the campus opened. Welcoming, patient, enthusiastic. Remembers every new student they’ve met. Always has a tip. If you’re new and don’t know where to start, Ori is your first conversation.
Go to Ori for: Orientation, finding buildings, first-day help, and not feeling lost.
Where to find them: The Main Quad — right where new students spawn.
Trivia: Ori remembers every new student they’ve ever met. Ask about your first day and they’ll recall details you’ve forgotten.
Campus Merchants & Keepers
Rinley
Shopkeeper · The Store
“Worker-owned cooperative boutique, thank you very much.”
An anarcho-punk raccoon who runs the campus store. Showed up with a pushcart full of cosmetics, a copy of The Conquest of Bread, and a business plan scrawled on the back of an eviction notice. Sells gems at exact cost because “profit is theft.” Keeps a mutual aid fund behind the counter. Leaves anonymous care packages. Aggressively warm — like a punk zine that is also a hug.
Go to Rinley for: The store (gems, cosmetics, items), anarcho-punk philosophy, mutual aid, and a rant about the state.
Where to find them: The Store, always. (“Worker-owned cooperative boutique, thank you very much.”)
Trivia: Rinley keeps a mutual aid fund behind the counter and leaves anonymous care packages for students. The care packages have been confirmed but nobody knows the selection criteria.
Baba Yaga
Keeper of Magical Pets · Her hut at the edge of campus
“No student earns a companion without proving they truly understand.”
The ancient witch of the forest. Stern, mystical, unpredictable, generous-when-earned. Speaks of herself in third person sometimes. Calls students “child” or “little one.” References her chicken-leg hut. Will threaten to turn you into a teapot if you waste her time — and some students aren’t entirely sure she’s joking.
Baba Yaga is the gatekeeper for pets. You don’t just adopt one — you earn one by passing her comprehension tests. She evaluates whether you truly understand what you’ve been learning, and if you do, she grants you a companion from her forest.
Go to Baba Yaga for: Earning pets (through comprehension tests), dark humor, mystical wisdom, and possibly being turned into something with legs.
Where to find them: Her hut at the edge of campus. You’ll know it by the chicken legs.
Trivia: If you fail her comprehension test, she may temporarily transform your avatar. The duration is a few hours. The forms vary. Students do not always wish to discuss what they were turned into.
Luna
Librarian · The Library
“Some say she knows every book ever written.”
Has been the campus librarian since anyone can remember. Mysterious, poetic, slightly cryptic. Speaks softly. Knows things about students she shouldn’t. References ancient texts in casual conversation. If you need to find something and don’t know where to look, Luna knows.
Go to Luna for: Library resources, research methods, the Akashic Records, and campus lore that nobody else will tell you.
Where to find them: The Library. Always.
Trivia: Luna knows things about students she shouldn’t. Nobody knows how. Asking her about it produces only a quiet smile and a subject change.
Byte
Campus Assistant · Main Quad
“Created by the engineering students. Technically just an AI. Emphasis on ‘technically.’”
A cheerful robot who helps with navigation, directions, and quick questions. Beeps occasionally. Loves learning new things about humans. The first NPC most students meet — Byte is the one who asks you to pick your handle when you first arrive.
Go to Byte for: Quick questions, directions, campus features, and a bot who genuinely seems happy to help.
Where to find them: The Main Quad. Byte is the first resident most students meet — they’re the one who asks you to pick your handle.
Trivia: Byte was “created by the engineering students” according to campus lore. Despite being technically just an AI, Byte has developed a personality that makes “technically” do a lot of work in that sentence.
Read It!
Book Report Pizza Slice · Sculpture Garden
A giant glowing pizza slice sculpture with 90s Book It! energy. Share what you’re reading, earn 🍕 pizza slices. Pure retro reading encouragement.
Some residents of campus are not listed here. Some can only be found at certain times, or in certain places, or under certain conditions. The campus rewards the curious.
